Problem
Drivers had no way to find a free car-wash bay nearby, and owners ran their queue on paper and phone calls.
What broke
Per-minute pricing was the original model and it made the exhausted-plan state unrepresentable — a driver could start a wash the system could not bill.
Moving to three explicit subscription states made the failure case a state rather than an edge case.
Approach
Two-sided marketplace: nearest-wash matching on PostGIS geography(Point,4326), a live queue pushed to both apps over SSE, and subscription-first billing with three plan states instead of per-minute charging.
